ESMA appoints Ante Žigman to its Management Board and appoints new Chairs to two standing committees

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), the EU’s financial markets regulator and supervisor, has appointed Ante Žigman as a new member of its Management Board. The election took place at the Board of Supervisors meeting in Warsaw on 17 June, and he will take up his position on 6 July 2025.

The new member is:

  • Ante Žigman, of the Hrvatska agencija za nadzor financijskih usluga (HANFA), Croatia

He replaces outgoing member Eduard Müller, of the Finanzmarktaufsicht (FMA), Austria, who served two mandates as member of the Management Board and whose mandate of office at the FMA ends on 5 July 2025. 

The Management Board, chaired by Verena Ross, Chair of ESMA, is responsible for ensuring that the Authority carries out its mission and performs the tasks assigned to it under its founding Regulation. 

From 6 July 2025, the Management Board will consist of:

  • Verena Ross, European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA);
  • Thorsten Pötzsch, Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht (BaFin), Germany
  • Vasiliki Lazarakou, Hellenic Capital Markets Commission (HCMC), Greece
  • Carlo Comporti, Commissione Nazionale per le Società e la Borsa (CONSOB), Italy
  • Jos Heuvelman, Autoriteit Financiële Markten (AFM), Netherlands
  • Armi Taipale, Finanssivalvonta (FIN-FSA), Finland
  • Ante Žigman, Hrvatska agencija za nadzor financijskih usluga (HANFA), Croatia
  • Natasha Cazenave, ESMA Executive Director (non-voting member)
  • Vojtěch Belling, ESMA Vice-Chair (observer)
  • European Commission representative (non-voting member). 

At the same Board of Supervisors meeting, the election of the Chairs of ESMA’s Investment Management and Issuers Standing Committees took place. Carlos San Basilio Pardo of CNMV (Spain) has been elected Chair of the Investment Management Standing Committee and Annemie Rombouts of Financial Services and Markets Authority, FSMA (Belgium) has been elected Chair of the Issuers Standing Committee.

The Standing Committees are expert groups drawn from ESMA staff and the National Competent Authorities (NCAs) for securities markets regulation in the Member States and are responsible for the development of policy in their respective areas.
