Open hearing on consultation on ESG terms in funds’ names
On 23 January ESMA organised a public hearing on the consultation paper on ESG and sustainability-related terms in funds names. The recording of that public hearing is available here, and the presentation here. The consultation paper is available here and responses are due by 20 February 2023.
The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), the EU’s financial markets regulator and supervisor, will hold an open hearing for its Consultation Paper on ESG or sustainability-related terms in funds’ names. ESMA will consider the feedback provided through the open hearing.
This open hearing provides an opportunity for stakeholders to hear more about ESMA’s consultation paper and to ask questions to ESMA staff related to the ongoing consultation. The consultation period will end on 20 February 2023.
This open hearing will primarily be of interest to investors and consumer organisations; to investment firms, UCITS management companies and external Alternative Investment Fund Managers (AIFMs) when providing investment services; and to any relevant trade associations.
During the open hearing the following topics will be addressed:
- the rationale leading to this initiative, from the supervisory briefing on funds’ names to the proposed Guidelines;
- the proportion of investments for funds’ names using ESG or sustainability-related terms (the thresholds);
- additional recommendations proposed for funds using ESG or sustainability-related terms in their names;
- feedback from stakeholders on the consultation paper.
